| Subject: The Hittable Word |
Now, there are those of us who like words, the sounds words make - other than what they mean. Ahah, my friend and I had this thing going in college, the 'hittable word' words - usually French - that you just want to smack someone for saying, like decoupage, or plethora. Sometimes I would call him up late and just say one word, and hang up, then he would do to same to me, and yes, after over a decade, we still do this, yep, something wrong there.
Anywhoo, I saw this vid of my friend elegantpaws blog, and I just had to crack the fuck up, thinking of the hittable word, and wait, it gets better as it goes. Srsly.

My hand is slightly aching from cutting out the Gackt magnetic doll yesterday, and I still have one to go. I have to design and mock up the coffin gift boxes today, allowing some room for a future set in the box, not to mention the Bell, Ener, Mei and Mercury dolls have to get drawn, painted, etc. etc.
They are slightly larger than I had planned on - -; but, it makes them easier to cut and more fun to play with, and MAN are they durable! they've already gotten wet and chewed on, thanks to Dash-chan for testing that out, he's now walking around with the Genesis doll, in fact last night as soon as the costume was finished, he was saying 'where is Genesis head? where is Genesis head?' (meaning the wig that goes with the doll) for reasons of structure and adhering to the doll, I left the faces along with the hair.
The real trick in making these dolls is the steel paper insert to make the clothes really attach. After you laminate, the clothes would not stick to the doll otherwise. (and this is not something that you find out by reading instructions from Xyron, who makes the magnet laminate machine, you have to sort of blunder into it online!) So ani_mama, I'll be sending you instructions and resources - and anyone else who wants em.
Btw, pics of how these appear will be on website in possibly a few days, now I've nailed down the costs of making the dolls.
Hopefully I can get to FIC today, I need my Angeal/Zack comfort lovin' - and I have a hot cup of tea, a raspberry white chocolate chip scone and some yummy Lazard/Sephiroth fic to read - gotta watch out for those smooth, well dressed blonde men at ShinRa.
Have a great weekend kiddos! |

My friend staci was complaining about the fact that Cloud is so abused in fanfiction, sure, you can make him a little emo that's canon.
But what I love about Cloud, he kicks ass, he overcomes adversity, he's the little engine that could, HE defeated Sephiroth, and he's not a SOLDIER, he's not super enhanced, he can barely lift the Buster Sword, but he manages to do what no one else could, out of sheer stubbornness and dammit, the desire to do good.
CLOUD STRIFE IS THE HERO IN ALL OF US, NOT THE DOORMAT.
end of rant. |

| Subject: Japanese Obon Festival |
Taiko drums, martial arts, Ikebana, sushi and other aspects of Japanese culture, will be featured at the annual Como Park Japanese Lantern Lighting Festival, a family-friendly event, reminiscent of Japan’s annual Obon holiday, on Sunday, August 17, 2008 on the grounds of the Marjorie McNeely Conservatory in Como Park, St. Paul Minnesota.
Obon is an important Japanese cultural and family holiday, at which ancestral spirits are said to revisit their families for three days. Families pay their respects at gravesites and put out offerings of food and drink on a tray before household alters. They also light lanterns or small fires outside the house to symbolically guide the souls to the home. On the last evening of Obon, lanterns again guide the spirits back to their resting places.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘The Element of Tea”. Tea is a customary drink worldwide. In Asian countries, drinking tea is an ancient tradition accompanied by a highly developed tea-based culture which is tied to art and local customs. Japanese tea ceremony is one of the representative arts of Japan. This elaborate and philosophical art form is highly ritualized and is characterized by simplicity of movement. In this respect, the art of tea brings calm to the spirit and it is intended to prepare the server and the recipient for conversation and peaceful communication. ( Read more... ) |

Will print svelte photo of Gackt and put it on treadmill for motivation. Maybe if I can go to Japan in 2010, I will have the body I want by then. :D (and I can wear leather)
heh, TMI.
Anywhoo, need to do art and fic today, let's hope for some productivity. |

| Subject: Kenshin Festival 2008 starring GACKT |
Here is a cm for the upcoming Kenshin Festival in Joetsu City, Niigata, Japan, which of old, was the prefecture of Echigo, the domain of one of the most famous military figures in Japanese history, Uesugi Kenshin. Gackt portrayed Kenshin (in a very rock star way, natch) in last year's fabulously popular historic drama FUURIN KAZAN produced by the NHK.
Now last year, Gackt agreed to take part in the annual festival because Niigata had suffered during recent earthquakes, and he had taken his character to heart, so he dressed in armor and rode a white horse in the parade, doing a short performance, as well as joined the famous battle re-enactment in the evening in the local stadium. His appearence drew 4 TIMES the usual crowds and broke all attendance records. Since the festival, Gackt appeared at a local high school to sing for the graduation ceremony.
This year Niigata has arranged for Gackt to appear again, and are promoting the Festival more widely across Japan, adding 500 costumes soliders to the parade and re-enactment, bringing participants to 1,000.

| Subject: Quick and Easy Quesadillas |
1 lb cooked meat of choice - shredded chicken, ground beef, shredded pork (or go vegetarian) 1 package flour tortillas (10 or 8) 1/2 cup vegetable shortening 2 cups shredded cheese of your choice 1 package taco seasoning I can refried beans
garnishes sour cream salsa guacamole
Add cooked meat to saucepan, add taco seasoning and water as directed on package, simmer until liquids are gone, set aside.
open package of tortillas and divide into two stacks, place 1/2 tortillas out on counter (the other tortillas will serve as the tops)
Open can of refried beans, spoon out about three tablespoons on each tortilla, spread out with a knife. (leaving about 1/4 inch from the edges of the tortillas)
Divide meat mixture between tortillas and spread out, (not all the way to the edge)
Divide shredded cheese between the tortillas, sprinkling to cover (not all the way to the edge)
Heat shortening in pan until sizzling, but be careful it isn't so hot it smokes.
Top each quesadilla with another tortilla, making a sandwich of sorts.
Carefully lower into the oil using a wide spatula, wait until one side is golden brown, carefully flip, do not overcook, but also cook enough so cheese melts.
Transfer tortilla to plate covered with paper towel - a few thicknesses of possible, put layers of paper towel in between torillas once cooked if stacking.
When cooled slightly, take tortillas to cutting board and cut across in wedges, as you would a pizza. Serve with garnishes of choice. One tortilla can be a dinner or lunch serving, or can be cut into smaller wedges as appetizers. Can be easily re-heated the next day. |

Nothing like whiling away a good part of the day on wonderful fiction - it combines one of my fave fandoms - Final Fantasy VII, and inspires me to find out about a new one Final Fantasy VIII, and I think you can read this fic if you know one or the other, action, adventure, angst, romance - in the sense of classic swashbucklers, you know, wonderfully drawn from canon characters, if this was a movie, you'd remember the best lines and cheer at the highlights.
Oh go and enjoy yourselves! Right now at 23 chapters and just waiting with breathless anticipation for the ending.
Imperfect Tense by Hadesphoneix Yaoi Pairings: Squall/Seifer Sephiroth/Cloud features Vincent Valentine Summary: (FF7/8) Cloud’s guilt and immortality kept him from the Promised Land while Jenova’s power has been reborn through the Sorceresses. Squall’s just trying to keep everything from falling apart.

| Subject: A Kind of Magic - QUEEN - and a little bit of a rant on the demands celebrity brings. |
You know, I was watching a bit of a documentary on QUEEN, in particular, it's lead singer Freddy Mercury, who only revealed that he was a gay man at the very end of his life. And it was VERY annoying to me that a few of the gay community were stating, oh, it was such a shame that Freddy could never come out and be himself... he could have been such a leader and a trailblazer.
I think Freddy had no problem being himself, we can't get into someone's head and say, oh, were you ashamed of your sexual identity? Or maybe, he just wanted a PRIVATE LIFE?
I am not sure where this sense of entitlement toward a celebrity comes from, that the performance is not enough, but we have to know everything about them. Well, goddamit, Freddy, Gackt, Simon le Bon, you name it, deserve some privacy, by being a performer, they give in their art, music, time, but this doesn't mean they have to be your figurehead, your activist, and by choosing a private life, Freddy was not ashamed, and not a failure.
(okay, rants over, enjoy the music)
